Friday Thoughts.

As I wrap up development of Animal Friends Adventure for submission to the publisher I look back on the project as a whole.

Success (I’m not there yet) is like cooking, there’s not one magic ingredient, it’s a mix of things. Many people feel Hard Work will get you there. It’s partially true. It’ll get stuff done. There are many people who work hard their entire life and stay in the same situation.

Sacrifice: What are you willing to lose in order to achieve your goals? If you can’t give anything up, how can one succeed? I sacrificed TV, a comfy job, Friends, family, personal relationships just to achieve my goals.

Risk: There is no gains in playing safe. This is also true in relationships. The more you want something, and the “safer” you play it, the higher the chance of losing. It’s counter intuitive but it happens. 6 months ago I quit a comfy high paying corporate job to work full time on my game that may not succeed. but If I never took the risk I’d be guaranteed failure.

Focus: Staying one the path is the hardest part of achieving your goals. There are so many distractions. So many times you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and just want to give up. you see life passing by and start to feel the dread of losing everything. I believe in “The Darkest Hour” principal so strongly. In your darkest hour, when everything feels like it’s about to fail. HOLD ON, stay with it. The light is just around the corner. So many times in my life I’ve wanted to give up. But I held on to that last thread and good things suddenly happened at that last glimmer of hope. The Darkest Hour is real.

Ambition: if you’re happy where you are there’s no need to worry. Some people are perfectly happy where they exist in life and that’s perfect for them. Some want more. how do you achieve your goals? Go all in. Put in 100% to get there. If you pay now, you can play later.

Courage: there’s no “I’m too old” to start. There’s no “I don’t have enough time”. It takes a strong push through all the roadblocks to achieve your goals. Seeing the end game and finding that path takes time, patience and courage to get. I’ve watched so many friends stop life just to re-position themselves for a better future.

Granted my game could pass certification, make it to the publisher store, get a huge marketing budget and still completely, totally fail. But I’d never know if I listened to the people who told me my dream was impossible. If I never tried.
